PIX #001

The very first PIX puzzle poses a seemingly simple question: which is the odd one out?

You are offered images of five objects. The first few are recognised relatively unambiguously as a jar of honey, a telephone, and stonehenge. Moving clockwise, the fourth image appears to represent some sort of sea creature (an anemone, perhaps) and the final image, bearing interconnected circles and icons, could perhaps be identified as the internet, a network or matrix of some kind.

But which is the odd one out? The objects seem unconnected. Perhaps the number '1', which is prominently displayed, is relevant here. This is the first PIX puzzle after all!

Looking carefully at the names of the identified objects, you may notice that four of them contain the letters O, N and E in that order: hONEy, telephONE, stONEhenge, anemONE. So it's a fair assumption that the last object is the odd one out.

So, does it represent the internet? A network? A matrix? 'Network' makes a particularly elegant response. Like the other words, it also contains an O, N and E, though not in the correct order. Moreover, you may have noticed that at its centre is a different number: neTWOrk.

Coincidence? Unlikely. The key to PIX#001 is NETWORK.
